Solo Photography

Typically I don’t post this many photos from a single session (for time and brevity’s sake), but I just couldn’t restrain myself this time. Everything about this session was incredible — the people, the mood, the locations, the people, the people, the people. I love them. And I absolutely love these images of them because they are so them. Since the first email I received from them I was dying to meet them and photograph them, and they were just as awesome as they sounded.

We were doing some three generational photos, and this was one of the first shots of the day. As you can tell, we had a lot of fun from the very beginning. You gotta love when your clients are so naturally natural.

This couple is amazing. They were fun and affectionate and romantic, and I felt like I was shooting for an engagement. Young love is beautiful and exciting, but photographing such a happy couple after they’ve raised their kids and been together for decades adds so much more to the romance.

I asked them to walk to the bottom of the ramp, and completely unprovoked they started dancing together. Swoon. I love these shots.

The reason the family was all together for this occasion was to celebrate the 50 years this couple has been married. Their son scheduled the session with me, and I loved his descriptions of his family members in his emails to me. After I read this line from his email, I knew I’d be asking them to make their own music to dance to: “Now-days, they’re master-gardeners and I can still see some of the old magic between them when they dance, assuming the band is to their liking.” How perfect that they’re dancing in their very own garden as well!

I LOVE this family shot. I think one of my favorite things about it is that no one is looking at me at all. It’s like I’m not even there.

I recently shot a mix of formal and casual portraits for a graduating class of Scott & White surgical residents, and we had a lot of fun with it. I really like how they turned out, especially because we had a very small window to get everyone together and shoot. (Try scheduling even an hour when five surgical residents are all off and available at the same time.)

I only included a couple shots of the more formal headshots. I have to say it’s pretty awesome shooting in an OR because you can make a pretty sweet studio set-up out of the equipment they have for operating.

One freakishly freezing morning in mid-April, I met up with Melissa and her mom to take her bridal portraits. I was wearing a cami, a sweater, and another thick sweater on top of that and was still shivering and shaking from the cold so that tells you how awesome Melissa is for sucking it up and going strapless. We tried keeping her warm between locations with a bathrobe, but I’m telling you she didn’t complain once, and it was cold!

It was fun doing her bridals since I’d also shot their engagement photos, because I already knew their style and could kind of match the locations — the bold greens, the rustic details, and the water. Here are a few of my faves.

Congrats to an amazing couple!

She said she liked old, interesting buildings so I found some for us! I loved meeting Jennifer. She’s so sweet, and she’s one of those girls you meet and instantly trust. I know she’ll do an amazing job at everything she does in her future. She has a great head on her shoulders!

Enjoy a peek into her session!

Check out this awesomeness. And these are only some of their photos…seriously. When we talked before their session, these BFFs said they wanted more of an Anthropologie-esque look to their photos, not bright colors. And I think their session turned out way cool if I do say so myself. These girls were so fun and kept me laughing, and they were total naturals. They were so much fun to photograph and totally up for everything I requested.

You see some more of their photos here and here.
