Kids Photography

Oh wow, I’m so attached to this little cutie (and his parents are pretty awesome too). We totally bonded, and by the end, he was grabbing my hand to walk me out of the field we were shooting in and crying that I had to go. It doesn’t get any sweeter than that!

Not that it didn’t take him a few minutes to warm up to me. When we first started talking, he took off like a shot to his bedroom. I, of course, followed — camera in hand — and found him sitting right in the center of his circle rug. Adorable! I have to admit, some of my favorite photos are pouting kid shots. That’s kids for you: a whole spectrum of emotion in a matter of minutes.

I told him I have matching shoes…and I wasn’t lying. I have a pair of these in black. Yes, I own velcro shoes. Maybe that’s why I love working with kids so much. We wear the same clothes.

The Caddy wasn’t quite in the plans, but when he jumped in and almost reversed into me (thanks to his dad for the warning), I couldn’t stop laughing that he was driving his own little car around the yard. How awesome is that?! And I just love how happy he was. Boys and their cars.

Perhaps my favorite shot of the day:

…as soon as this image popped up on my computer. I haven’t even finished glancing through their session yet. As soon as I saw it, I knew it was my preview photo for them.

Such a sweet fam, and I love these close-up cuddly shots of them. I’m so glad we got photos taken for them before they had to move (seriously, how are all my clients mid-move right now?!).

The story of how they found me cracked me up because the husband and wife were separately and simultaneously referred to a photographer by two totally different people who had recently had family photos taken. When they compared notes on who the photographer was they were each referred to, they realized they were both talking about me! Awww, I felt so special.

Also, this was probably the most easy-going baby I’ve ever worked with in my life. He was totally chill the entire time. Unreal.

Cutest, sweetest, most fun kid ever. I’m so excited about their session. Can’t wait to show you (and more importantly his mom and dad) more of their awesome photos!

I love this girl’s smile. (In this case, this girl just happens to be my girl.)

She has a ton of spirit, which she uses for both good and evil (hello, public tantrums).

She’s 18 months old and just started really talking lately, and the sound of her little words coming out of her mouth is the most amazing sound I’ve ever heard. She’s so proud of herself, and it’s so fun hearing her practice talking, like when she was holding an old flip cell phone to her cheek this morning while pacing around the house and saying, “Hello! Hi!” and saying, “Buh bye!” before she closed the phone and smiled proudly at me.

She’s been saying new words everyday, and this evening she even surprised me by saying, “Hi Turkledog!” as our dog walked past the bathroom door after her bath. What?! Where did that come from? She still seems to have trouble with some single syllable words but then busted out that four syllable phrase! I guess she hears that a lot around here.

Oh yeah….she also has a new favorite storage facility for her index finger.

I love the wildflowers in Texas. Even though I’m from Dallas I lived away from Texas for a while, and when we moved back here, I was so in love with the wildflowers every year. I had totally forgotten how overwhelming they can be for those few weeks in spring when they’re really blooming. Most people love the traditional bluebonnet photos — and don’t get me wrong, I love them too — but I really love the way these flowers look when they’re in full bloom, so my husband and I took our daughter out for a few photos about a week and a half before they started to wither and were mowed. I’m just now getting to posting a few.

Don’t you just love this crazy hair? This girl will not keep anything in her hair (if I can even wrestle anything into it to begin with).
