Meet my new favorite family ever. I want to move in…and let them teach me Christopher Walken impressions. I can’t wait — can’t wait — to show you more, but most importantly I can’t wait to show them the rest of their photos because I know they will mean so much more to them than anyone else.
I feel so honored to have been invited to peek into the relationships in this family. They are so full of life and humor.

Elaborately posed newborn photos have a time and place, and they can be really beautiful. But they’re almost never my favorite photos, and they’re definitely not my personal style. I love the true lifestyle photos — the breastfeeding, the cuddling, the kissing, the entire family interacting. And I absolutely love these photos because of the emotions and personality that you can see in them.
Such a sweet, warm, welcoming family. Love them.
Bottom left: probably my favorite shot of the day. Normally I don’t shoot while we’re trying to soothe the babies, but I’m so glad I snapped this one. Gorgeous.

This last weekend was my nephew’s 9th birthday, so my family and I headed up to Dallas to celebrate with him. While I was there, I pulled out my camera and made him come outside with me so I could get a few shots of him since it has been way too long since I photographed some of my favorite subjects. Well, as typically happens, the rest of the kids (and my brother) followed us out to play as well.

I love this girl’s smile. (In this case, this girl just happens to be my girl.)
She has a ton of spirit, which she uses for both good and evil (hello, public tantrums).
She’s 18 months old and just started really talking lately, and the sound of her little words coming out of her mouth is the most amazing sound I’ve ever heard. She’s so proud of herself, and it’s so fun hearing her practice talking, like when she was holding an old flip cell phone to her cheek this morning while pacing around the house and saying, “Hello! Hi!” and saying, “Buh bye!” before she closed the phone and smiled proudly at me.
She’s been saying new words everyday, and this evening she even surprised me by saying, “Hi Turkledog!” as our dog walked past the bathroom door after her bath. What?! Where did that come from? She still seems to have trouble with some single syllable words but then busted out that four syllable phrase! I guess she hears that a lot around here.
Oh yeah….she also has a new favorite storage facility for her index finger.

I love being able to work with kids so often, but sometimes it is so fun and refreshing to work with all adults (well, and a couple pugs in this case). I can’t tell you how much fun this session was.
We had an awesome group — a newly married couple with their dogs for some family photos, in addition to her mom and sister who are all really close. They were all hysterically funny, and it was fun incorporating some more personal touches into their session, like the wine and the tandem bike (seriously, who else is cool enough to have a tandem bike on hand?). I knew it was going to be awesome when I was laughing out loud reading the pre-session questionnaire.
I had in my mind before I met up with them that if we were having enough fun I was going to make them pose like the classic Goodfellas photo since they’re way into mob movies. We did. And it was awesome. (Not pictured here, though. It was just for them.)
